Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The #14-ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers men's hockey team defeated the #9-ranked UMD Bulldogs 5-4 Saturday night to earn a weekend sweep on the road.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period thanks to goals from Travis Oleksuk and Jack Connolly, but went into the locker room tied at 2.

Nick Bjugstad gave the Gophers a 3-2 lead early in the second period, and Nate Condon later doubled that lead with his second goal of the night.

After another Minnesota goal, Caleb Herbert and J.T. Brown both scored to pull UMD within one, but that was all the scoring in the 5-4 Bulldogs loss.

UMD outshout Minnesota 50-16 on Saturday night, but Kent Patterson made 46 saves in the winning effort, moving the Gophers to (4-0) this season.

The (1-3) Bulldogs didn't lose back-to-back games all of last season, and now have dropped three in a row since a season-opening win against Notre Dame.
