Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The St. Scholastica women's soccer team has received all seven possible first-place votes in the preseason Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) coaches' poll, it was announced on Friday.
Coaches cannot vote for their own team in the poll, and the only other team to garner a first-place tally was Minnesota-Morris.
The Saints finished the 2011 season as UMAC regular season and postseason champions, ending the year at the NCAA Division III tournament with a (16-5-1) overall record.
The team will be led in 2012 by Duluth native and returning UMAC player and rookie of the year Kelsey Kehtel, who totaled 20 goals and four assists in her freshman campaign.
Kehtel will be helped by another returning Duluthian in senior midfielder Joey Moore, who was named last season to the all-UMAC second teams.
St. Scholastica opens the season at home on August 31 against Macalaster, with that game scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start.
Northland College, based in Ashland, Wis., was picked to finish fifth in the 2012 season after finishing last year with a (5-11-0) overall record.
