Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- A sluggish first period cost the #13-ranked University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) men's hockey team on Saturday night as they fell 3-2 to Ohio State at AMSOIL Arena.

The Bulldogs allowed two goals in the opening frame, putting the team in a hole from which they wouldn't quite recover.

Joe Basaraba and Mike Seidel each scored goals in the second period to tie the game, but Ohio State's Max McCormick scored early in the third to give the Buckeyes the lead for good.

Aaron Crandall made 18 saves in the contest, starting his second straight game this season for UMD. Collin Olson, meanwhile, made 26 stops between the pipes for Ohio State.

UMD is now (1-1-0) this season and will next be in action October 18-19 on the road to Notre Dame, with that games set to start at 6:05 p.m.
