Cloquet, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Returning players for the Fond du Lac football team say an undefeated season is the team's goal, and head coach Keith Turner said Thursday he wouldn't expect them to say anything different.
To do that, players returning to the Thunder program after a (3-6) season in 2011 say team chemistry will be a big key.
"We're coming together as a team a lot more," Thunder sophomore defensive lineman Andrew Youngren said. "Last year, we had our groups and everything, but this year we are coming together. I feel like we're a better team. We're going to win some games."
"We're a lot more focused, and there's a lot of chemistry going on," Fond du Lac sophomore wide receiver Chaise Jokinen said. "Last year, we had a lot of indivduals. This year, we're looking more like a team. I'm hoping we can go far."
The team will have to replace its quarterback, a position for which Albrook graduate Cody Anderson appears the early frontrunner.
"We've got a lot of guys that want to be out here with a lot of talent," Anderson said. "It's going pretty well so far."
Thunder head coach Keith Turner said he's happy with the team's progress so far, and he's satisfied that the players have embraced his theme for the 2012 year.
"Our theme this year is excellence, and that's what we're preaching," Turner said. "We want to have consistency, and we want to be excellent on every play."
The team's first game is scheduled for August 24 against Minnesota State-Fergus Falls, with that set to start at 7:00 p.m. at Bromberg Field in Cloquet, Minn.
