Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- For the first time since 2008, the University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) football team is outside the top five of the preseason American Football Coaches' Association (AFCA) Division II poll --- the Bulldogs are ranked 11th to start the season.

That 2008 year also corresponds with the last time UMD was dealing with a coaching change, with Curt Wiese taking over this fall for the departed Bob Nielson.

Both those things, though, have nothing to do with the Bulldogs' in-house expectations of the program.

"Our first team meeting touched on what Bulldog football is about and the groundwork that's been laid here," Wiese said. "It's been that way the past 80 years of football and certainly the last five. Our expectation is to move forward as a program."
