Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The UMD Bulldogs volleyball team is ranked 12th in the 2011 preseason poll issued by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
The Bulldogs earned 464 points in the poll, well shy of the 800 earned by the preseason favorite, four-time defending national champion Concordia-St. Paul.
The Golden Bears received all 32 first-place votes a year after earning the program's fourth-straight NCAA championship and posting a (20-0) record in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).
The Bulldogs finished the 2010 season with a (23-6) overall record, going (15-4) in the NSIC, and were tabbed to finish third in that conference in 2011.
The Bulldogs open up play with a tournament in Indianapolis, IN September 2-3 and will play their first home match on September 9 against Upper Iowa.
