Marquette, MI (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) women's soccer team started the 2012 season off right, beating Northern Michigan 4-0 on Thursday afternoon.
Jennifer Smith scored the eventual game-winning goal for the Bulldogs, striking in the 37th minute off a free kick for UMD.
The other goal scorers in the winning effort for the Bulldogs were Dani Potter, Sally Stromme, and Katie Schneider, with all those goals came in the second half.
Hannah Iaizzo needed to make only one save to earn the shutout in net for UMD, which improves to (1-0) this season with the victory.
