Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) women's hockey team is ranked eighth in the preseason U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) poll, it was announced on Monday.
The Bulldogs finished last season with a (21-14-1) overall record but narrowly missed qualifying for the NCAA Division I tournament.
The University of Minnesota is ranked first in the USCHO poll, receiving all 15 first-place votes as the Golden Gophers are set to defend a 2012 NCAA Division I championship.
Second-ranked Wisconsin and fifth-ranked North Dakota are the other two Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) teams in the top 10 to start the 2012-13 season.
The Bulldogs open the year with exhibition games on September 28 and 29 against the Minnesota Whitecaps, with those games set to be played at AMSOIL Arena in Duluth.
