Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) junior and Hibbing native Kate Lange has been named the American Volleyball Coaches' Association (AVCA) national player of the week, it was announced on Tuesday.

Lange finished the weekend with 50 kills for the Bulldogs, including a season-high 29 kills in Saturday's 3-2 win over then #22-ranked Minnesota State-Moorhead.

The 2011 first-team All-American added 17 digs and three blocks across the two weekend matches, helping UMD improve to (11-0) this season.

The former Hibbing Bluejacket has reached double digits in kills in each of the last 44 matches for UMD, and she's led the Bulldogs in kills in every match so far in the 2012 season.

Lange becomes the ninth UMD player to earn AVCA national player of the week honors, the last being Danielle Beckstrand in 2007.
