Winston-Salem, NC (NNCNOW.com) --- University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) freshman Sam Rivard won the mile at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday afternoon, becoming just the second Bulldog to win an indoor championship.
Rivard finished with a time of 4:50.3, more than four seconds faster than her previous mark. She becomes UMD's first national champion since Jodi Swenson won the high jump in 1991.
The Oak Grove, Minn. native also finished third in the 3,000-meter run to earn All-American status with a time of 9:44.98. Her teammate, Hannah Olson, was also an All-American in the mile after she came in 7th place.
