UMD's Rivard is NSIC Newcomer of the Year

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) freshman Samantha Rivard has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) women's outdoor track and field newcomer of the year, it was announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Rivard had a stellar meet at the NSIC outdoor championships, winning both the 10,000-meter and 5,000-meter runs while also placed third in the 1,500-meter run.

The Bulldogs freshman set an NCAA provisional mark of 35:50.74 in winning the 10,000-meter run at the NSIC championships, and she also set an NCAA provisional mark of 16:29.73 in the 5,000-meter run earlier this season at the Drake Relays.
