Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- UW-Superior senior Tom Fairbanks has been named to the All-American first team by the American Baseball Coaches' Association, it was announced on Friday.
The Brainerd, Minn. native becomes the first-ever Yellowjacket to earn All-American honors from the ABCA, that after he led the team with a .439 batting average, 61 runs batted in, and 14 home runs in the 2014 season.
"I feel like I'm starting to sound like a broken record when it comes to Tom and his performance this season," UW-Superior head coach Nick Bursik said. "The bottom line is he worked incredibly hard on and off the field, he was one hundred percent committed to being the best player he could be and he was rewarded with a consistent performance this season."
Fairbanks led the Yellowjackets in most offensive categories in 2014 and led the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) in slugging percentage, on-base percentage, triples, and runs batted in.
In addition to the All-American honors, Fairbanks was also named on Friday to the ABCA's all-Midwest Region first team.
