Wiese, UMD Win Opener Over Sioux Falls

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) football team and first-year head coach Curt Wiese rolled to a win, 32-7 on Saturday night against the University of Sioux Falls at Malosky Stadium.

Wiese earned a win in his head coaching debut thanks to a solid all-around effort. The Bulldogs gained 381 yards of total offense while holding the Cougars 144 total yards.

Austin Sikorski got the scoring started in the first quarter with an 11-yard touchdown run. He added another score in the third quarter from two-yards out.

Redshirt freshman Drew Bauer scored his first collegiate TD in the second quarter to put UMD up 19-0.

Back-up quarterback Eric Kline would get in on the action with his first passing touchdown in third quarter to Zach Zweifel.

Andrew Brees also had two field goals for UMD, a 40-yarder and a 29-yarder.

The win makes it 14 straight home openers and 41 consecutive NSIC home victories.

UMD hits the road next Saturday, Sept. 14 to take on Upper Iowa.
