Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- St. Scholastica skier Paul Schommer finished in eighth place in the 20-kilometer freestyle mass start on Sunday at the NCAA Championships, making him the first All-American in that program's history.

Schommer finished with a time of 44:01.6, which put him just 11.6 seconds off the lead and only 1.3 seconds from the top three.

Colorado's Mads Ek Stroem won the race with a time of 43:49.0, but Schommer was part of a mad dash to the finish line behind him that resulted in the eight place finish.

In addition to becoming the program's first-ever NCAA All-American skier. Schommer also finished as the top Division III skier at the NCAA Championships in both of his races on the weekend.
