Saints' Johnson Outduels UMD's Rivard in "Opener"

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- St. Scholastica senior and recently crowned DIII cross-country national champion Chelsea Johnson ousted University of Minnesota Duluth DII All-American Sam Rivard at "The Opener" in the 5000 meter run on Saturday.

Johnson finished with a time of 16:59.48 to set a Saints program record. The two ran in a tandem for most of the race before Johnson pulled away and eventually won by 3.5 seconds.

There were six school competing in all including CSS, UMD, and the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
