Saints' Lysico Earns National Academic Honor

Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- St. Scholastica's Tom Lysico has been named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III all-academic team, it was announced on Tuesday.

This marks Lysico's second consecutive year earning the honor, becoming the first St. Scholastica male athlete to achieve the accolade twice.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA honor, an athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher and have competed in an NCAA championship that year or be ranked among the top national performers in any one event.

Lysico, an outgoing senior at St. Scholastica, competed in the NCAA Division III outdoor track and field championships in the hammer throw, finishing 14th.

He was the only athlete from the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) to receive the academic honor, that after being named this year to the UMAC all-academic team for the fourth straight season.
