Saints Power Past the 'Jills for UMAC Crown

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The St. Scholastica softball team scored nine first inning runs en route to cruising past Northland 16-1 in five innings for its 12th Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Championship on Sunday afternoon.

WIth the win, the Saints automatically qualify for next weekend's NCAA Division III Tournament. CSS has won 21 straight games and hasn't lost at home since the 2011 season.

Rendi Johnson lead the Saints with 4 RBIs including a two-run homer in the fourth. Tiff Hudack and Chrisi Mizera each added two RBIs.

CSS sophomore Micah McGuiness pitched a complete game six-hitter, giving up one unearned run while striking out eight.

St. Scholastica will find out its opponent for the NCAA Tournament on Monday morning at 9:00 a.m.
