Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Six St. Scholastica athletes have earned player of the week honors in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC), it was announced on Tuesday.
The players of the week, which were the first of the 2012-13 athletic season, came from men's soccer, women's soccer, volleyball, and cross country for the Saints.
Men's soccer midfielder Joe Watt and defender Caleb Yurek were named the UMAC offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, after their team played to a (1-1) record at home over the weekend.
Volleyball's Anna Zyvoloski was named the UMAC offensive player of the week after lfinishing the weekend with a .378 attack percentage while eading her team to a (4-0) record.
Her teammate, Erika Birkeland, was named the UMAC setter of the week after finishing the four matches with an average of 11.5 assists per set and helping her team to a .533 hitting percentage.
Cross country runner was named the UMAC runner of the week after winning the Tom Barry Invitational on Saturday, finishing with a time of 18:39.
Women's soccer goalkeeper Kelsey Reeves was named the UMAC defensive player of the week, that after helping her team to a (1-0-1) record at home.
