Ashland, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- Anyone who says soccer is a low-scoring sport clearly has not seen Ashland senior Logan Tamke, who has 98 career goals with the Oredockers and is on the verge of breaking the school scoring record, play the game.
To say Tamke has a knack for the goal is an understatement.
"I just try and be as successful on the field by putting balls in the net and being able to assist other players as well."
What the Ashland senior isn't telling you is that he's just two goals shy of 100 in his career.
"I really didn't, even after my freshman year, know if I was going to be able to put up so many goals. I've been given so many opportunities, and I've tried to accomplish as much as I can."
Tamke's attempting to hit the century mark and break the Oredockers all–time scoring record, all at the same time.
"You know, right now the record is at 99," said Anne Whiting, Ashland's head coach. "That was set by Jonny Bebeau. He had gone and played at Parkside, came back to the community, and now he helps us. To break Jonny's record now is a big deal."
Bebeau set the record in 2004, and now as the Oredockers assistant coach, he's also Tamke's biggest cheerleader.
"We go out for breakfast quite a bit, Logan and I, and he said, hey, I'm pretty close to your record. I said, hey man, let's get you that record this year. It's been awesome. I couldn't think of a greater guy to do that."
As for Tamke, it's not something he's spent a lot of time thinking about.
"More after the season really, to look back at what I've accomplished over my whole soccer career and high school. Right now, I'm just focused on the playoffs."
A focus on what's coming next which Bebeau hopes is a new record–holder.
"For me to set a record that high, it was like who's going to come around and break that. You just hope the guy that comes around and breaks it has the right heart behind it, and he totally does."
