Mankato, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The Cherry softball team is back in the MSHSL Class A state championship, that after beating four-time defending champion New Life Academy on Thursday night.
The Tigers were runners-up to New Life Academy in 2011, and the team moved to (25-0) this season with the win.
Kirstin Lahti hit an inside-the-park home run for Cherry, and Shaina Novak pitched seven scoreless innings for the Tigers.
Cherry will now take on Blooming Prairie for the Class A state championship, with that game set for June 8 at 1:00 p.m. in Mankato.
