(Northland's NewsCenter) --- Eight Northland players were taken Sunday in the 2012 Superior International Junior Hockey League (SIJHL) draft, with two being selected with the brand-new "Hometown Chip" pick.

Duluth Denfeld's Nick Thompson was taken by Duluth and Cloquet-Esko-Carlton's Dylan Michaud by Wisconsin, both with the pre-draft "Hometown Chip" selection.

That pick, new to this year's draft, allows teams to take one player from within its community before the regular selection process even begins.

Six Northland players were then taken during the course of the regular draft, with five of those going to the Wisconsin Wilderness.

Below are listed all of the area selections in the 2012 SIJHL draft.

Duluth - Nick Thompson (Duluth Denfeld)
Wisconsin - Dylan Michaud (Cloquet-Esko-Carlton)

Round 1: Wisconsin - Bryton Lutzka (Duluth East)
Round 2: Wisconsin - Kyle Jones (Duluth Marshall)
Round 3: Wisconsin - Zac Kramer (Hermantown)
Round 4: Wisconsin - Hunter Roberts (Cloquet-Esko-Carlton)
Round 5: Wisconsin - Jack Dodd (Duluth Marshall)

Round 5: Fort Frances - Luke Spilee (International Falls)
