Superior, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Former Superior hockey standout Dan Kolenda will be among seven newcomers to the Division I Niagara men's hockey program in the 2012-13 season, it was announced on Friday.

“At 6-foot-4, 230 lbs, Dan brings size and skill to our program,” Niagara assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Tim Madsen said. “With Dan’s big frame and skill level, he will have the ability to wear down other teams’ defenseman.”

Kolenda graduated from Superior in 2009, and since that time he has been playing with Carleton Place in the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL).

The former Spartan totaled 30 goals and 65 assists during 111 games with the Canadians, and he was named the 2011 CCHL All-Star team.

The Niagara men's hockey team opens play in the 2012-13 season on October 6 against Bowling Green.
