Mankato, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Hermantown softball team notched a 4-1 win over Pequot Lakes on Thursday morning in the MSHSL Class AA quarterfinals, meaning the Hawks will now play for a berth in this year's state championship game.

Hawks senior pitcher Katie Thun struck out 18 of the 27 batters she faced in the contest, putting her just two shy of the state record in a standard, seven-inning game.

This year's tournament marks the Hawks' fourth appearance at state in the past five seasons, with the team last winning the championship in 2009.

Hermantown will take on Kason-Mantorville in the semifinal round, with that game scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at Caswell Park in Mankato, Minn.
