Cumberland, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- Hayward senior Jordan Duffy and sophomore Michael McDonald each advanced to next week's WIAA Division 2 golf meet, but the Hurricanes as a team fell one stroke short of earning a spot at state out of the Cumberland sectional.

Duffy shot a 78 on Tuesday afternoon to finished third individually while McDonald's 80 put him sixth, with both those scores good enough to advance as individuals to the state meet.

As a team, Hayward shot a 339 to finish in third place at the sectional meet, with that just one stroke back of Ellsworth's 338 and the second and final state qualification spot.

Northwestern was also competing at the Cumberland sectional as a team, finishing in 10th place with a score of 363.

Duffy and McDonald will now move on to the state meet, which is scheduled for June 9-10 at University Ridge in Madison, Wis.
