St. Paul, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Hermantown boys' hockey team scored 27 seconds into the game and never trailed on Wednesday morning in a 6-3 win over Luverne in the MSHSL Class A quarterfinals at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.
Nate Pionk was credited with that opening tally, although it appeared on replay that it should have belonged to Ryan Kero. Pionk also added an empty netter in the third period to finish with two goals on the official box score.
Tanner Kimball, Cole Koepke, Luke Jacques, and Kyle Amundson were the other goal scorers for Hermantown, and Adam Smith made 23 saves to earn the win in goal.
The win means Hermantown has now won its quarterfinal games nine of the 11 times it has advanced to the MSHSL Class A tournament.
Hermantown will now play New Prague in the Class A semifinals, with that game set for 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Xcel Energy Center.
