St. Paul, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Hermantown boys' hockey team beat Northland rival Duluth Marshall on Wednesday in the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Class A quarterfinals, with the 3-0 victory coming at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.
Bo Gronseth and Travis Koepke each scored goals in the second period, with Chris Benson adding another midway through the third. Each of those three also had a single assist to finish with two points in the winning effort.
Adam Smith made 17 saves to earn the shutout victory for the Hawks, that coming in his first-ever start at the state tournament.
Caden Flaherty, meanwhile, showed flashes of brilliance while making 31 saves in the game for the Hilltoppers.
#3-seeded Hermantown now advances to the Class A semifinals, with that game against #2-seeded Breck scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on March 8 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.
Duluth Marshall will move to the Class A consolation bracket, with the Hilltoppers' next game set for 10:00 a.m. on March 7 against Marshall at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis, Minn.
