Grand Rapids, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Grand Rapids boys' basketball standout Alex Illikainen will forego his senior season with the Thunderhawks and instead will play for a New Hampshire preparatory school, he confirmed to NNCNOW.com on Tuesday afternoon.

Illikainen, who became the Thunderhawks' all-time leading scorer as a junior, will play his senior year for Brewster Academy, a school based in Wolfeboro, N.H.

Widely considered one of Minnesota's best high school players headed into his senior season, Illikainen has received interest from Division I colleges across the country, including the University of Minnesota and the University of Wisconsin.

He averaged 25.5 points per game this past season and led Grand Rapids to the Section 7AAA semifinals, and he is participating this week in the National Basketball Players' Association (NBPA) Top 100 camp in Charlottesville, Va.

Grand Rapids head coach Dan Elhard also confirmed the news to NNCNOW.com on Tuesday, saying he hopes the move works out for Illikainen.
