Mankato, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The Cloquet softball team came close to another dramatic comeback, but fell just short Thursday night in a 3-2 loss to St. Anthony Village in the MSHSL Class AA state tournament.
The Lumberjacks scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but that's where the comeback fell short and the team's bid at a state championship ended.
Chandler Beaupre and Jade Benko each had a run batted in for Cloquet, and Beaupre also pitched all seven innings for the Lumberjacks in the losing effort.
Cloquet will now take on Maple River in the Class AA third place game, with that game set for 11:00 a.m. on June 8 in Mankato.
