Lumberjacks are 7A Champs, Off to State Tourney

Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- In a battle of two teams that know one another well and three close-knit communities, it was the Cloquet girls' soccer team winning the Section 7A championship on Thursday night with a 2-1 win in penalties over Esko-Carlton.

Senior goaltender Kenzie Rathe stopped two shots in the penalty shootout for the Lumberjacks, who advance to the program's first MSHSL Class A tournament since 2009.

Mikayla Baker scored Cloquet's lone goal during regulation, and Emily Rikkola had the game-winning shot for the Lumberjacks in the shootout.
