Willow River, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Moose Lake-Willow River football team has won 62 straight regular season games, dating all the way back to the 2006 season, but almost saw that streak erased against Hermantown a season ago.

On Thursday night, the Rebels will once again have to get past the Hawks to start their season. In 2013, Hermantown jumped out to a 20-point lead before ML-WR rallied with 24 unanswered points to win.

Rebels head coach Dave Louzek admits it's a budding rivalry for two schools less than an hour away from one another.

"They've got a great program, great tradition at Hermantown, and I think we've developed one here at Moose Lake-Willow River," he said. "To have those rivalries, the fans look forward to that, the coaches look forward to that, and certainly the players are excited about it as well."
