Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- It happened 10 days later than planned, but Superior, Wis. Mayor Bruce Hagen proclaimed it "Superior Girls' Basketball Day" in the city, honoring the Spartans for a remarkable season that ended with them as runners-up in the WIAA Division 1 tournament.

The official day now belonging to the team is April 16, 2014, but the original ceremony had to be postponed due to a snowstorm. Even with the delay, though, senior Hailey Kontny says it's a huge honor.

"We strive hard to do good on the court, to do good in practice, to do good in school and to just be wonderful people in our communities," Kontny said. "Honestly, it's an honor to just be a part of the team and have a day named after you because it doesn't happen often."
