Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The Duluth Northern Stars were just one of the girl's high school hockey teams to hit the ice on Monday for the first official day of practice this season.

Shawna Davidson, a Hall of Fame player at the University of New Hampshire, is entering her third year as head coach of the Northern Stars.

Duluth went (8-16-2) a year ago and will host a 12-team jamboree this weekend at the Heritage Sports Center to help prepare for the regular season.

Davidson, also a former assistant coach at UMD, said she and her team are very excited to get the 2011-12 season underway.
