Northland gymnast earns high marks

Wisconsin Dells, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) - At the Wisconsin Dells Gymnastics Vacation Classic, The Gymnastic Academy’s Maile’ana Kanewa has qualified to the second annual Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup. She will join gymnasts who have qualified from the 18 Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup Series and will have the opportunity to compete on the podium the evening prior to the AT&T American Cup.

By qualifying to the Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup, Kanewa will not only have the opportunity to earn the title of Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup Champion, but will also meet and greet Nastia Liukin. All-Around champions of the Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup will be recognized at the AT&T American Cup.

The Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup will take place the evening of March 4th at Jacksonville Veterans Arena in Jacksonville, FL. The event will have a traditional format and level 10 rules will be used. Additionally, the meet will be broadcast on Universal Sports.

Maile’ana Kanewa is believed to be the first gymnast in the Northland to have ever qualified for this competition!

Maile’ana Kanewa is a level 10 gymnast at The Gymnastics Academy in Duluth, MN. She has verbally committed to the University of Oklahoma for 2012-2016. Kanewa is a junior at Central High school. She is coached by Mark Waterhouse and Kara Waterhouse.
