St. Cloud, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The Proctor baseball team nearly pulled off an extra-inning rally but fell just short on Friday in the MSHSL Class AA semifinals, falling 9-8 to St. Cloud Cathedral.
The Crusaders scored four runs in the top half of the ninth inning before the Rails scored three in the bottom half, ending Proctor's bid at a state championship.
Ryan McCarthy led the Rails offensively, going 2-for-5 at the plate with two runs batted in.
Ben Nelson pitched the first half of the game for Proctor, going 4.1 innings with five runs allowed and two strikeouts. Jack Nikko then pitched the next 4.2 innings, allowing four runs and striking out three to be charged with the loss.
The Rails will now play Fairmont in the Class AA third place game, with that set to start at 5:00 p.m. on Friday in St. Cloud.
