Rails, Warriors Each Win One at State Baseball Tourney

St. Cloud, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The Proctor Rails rebounded nicely from a loss in the quarterfinal round with a win Friday morning in the MSHSL Class AA baseball tournament.

The Rails defeated St. Anthony Village 4-1 Friday in the first game of the consolation bracket before falling 5-1 to Delano in the consolation championship game.

In the win, Rails pitcher Jake Lewis pitched a complete game while allowing only three hits and striking out four.

At the plate, Proctor's Ryan McCarthy had two hits, three RBI and a home run while Jesse Scanlon and Jimmy Merling each had two hits for the Rails.

The Rails end their season with a record of (22-4).

DEER RIVER WINS ONCE, LOSES ANOTHER IN CLASS A TOURNEY

The Deer River Warriors also avenged an opening round loss at state, knocking off New York Mills 4-1 in the consolation bracket of the MSHSL Class A baseball tournament.

The Warriors then lost to Providence Academy 9-4 in the consolation championship game, ending their season with a record of (22-5).

In the win, Travis Kane pitched a complete game for Deer River, scattering six hits throughout and recording one strikeout.

Jack Carter recorded two hits for the Warriors in that game, as Deer River scored all four of its runs in the sixth inning for the win.
