Rapids' Peterson, Shepard Up for Senior Awards

Grand Rapids, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Grand Rapids senior forward Avery Peterson is one of 10 finalists for the 2014 Minnesota Mr. Hockey award and senior goaltender Hunter Shepard one of two finalists for the 2014 Frank Brimsek award, it was announced on Wednesday morning.

The Mr. Hockey award is given each season to the state's top senior player, while the Frank Brimsek award is handed out to Minnesota's best senior goaltender.

Peterson this season leads the Thunderhawks with 30 goals and 25 assists for 55 total points, making him right now the 11th highest scorer in the state.

Shepard has been the team's number one goaltender, playing in every game and currently carrying an overall record of (15-7-0) and a 2.60 goals against average.

Peterson has made a verbal commitment to play Division I college hockey at Nebraska-Omaha, while Shepard has not yet publicly made a decision on college.

The 2014 Minnesota Mr. Hockey award and 2014 Frank Brimsek award will be presented on March 9, which is the Sunday following the 2014 boys' state hockey tournament.
