Cloquet, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Cloquet Public School Board voted 4-1 on Monday night to keep Dave Esse for another season as the head boys' hockey coach, denying a petition filed by parents to have Esse removed from his post.
The petition alleged that Esse had frequent inappropriate outbursts at his players and sought his removal as coach.
The school board's decision came following a closed door session, which marked the third time they had met on Esse's employment status.
Monday's vote will allow Esse to coach through his contract with the district, which will run out following the 2014 season. After that, it is unclear what his future with hold with the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton team.
As the results of the vote were read, there was a standing ovation from the more than 100 people that were attending Monday's meeting.
"I've talked to both my boys and they both have said he just wants the best for them," Jennifer Kuhlman said. "He has never demeaned them or called them names. I don't think he is that hard on them."
Esse attended Monday's meeting but declined to comment on his coaching situation. Next season will mark his 15th behind the bench with the Lumberjacks.
