Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- The Superior football team had its first practices of the 2014 season on Tuesday afternoon, with the team taking full advantage of the year's first day with three 90-minute sessions.
Teams are only allowed to practice in helmets until Aug. 11, with Superior using Tuesday's practices to install schemes and work on learning the playbook for the upcoming fall.
The Spartans went (7-3) in the 2013 season and qualified for the WIAA Division 2 playoffs, a performance head coach Bob DeMeyer is relying on his upperclassmen to help replicate.
"I would say one of our strengths is the leadership we have," DeMeyer said. "We've got kids that really know how to get after it, how to work, and how to set the pace. They do a great job of showing the younger kids the expectations of our program."
Superior opens the 2014 season on Aug. 22 with a road game against Hopkins.
