Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- Superior senior runner Leah Holmes made her verbal commitment to Division I UW-Milwaukee this past October, but news of her choice is just now becoming public knowledge.

Holmes had been in contact throughout the fall with UW-Milwaukee's coaching staff, with the school wanting a decision by sometime in late October.

The official commitment for Holmes came just days before the WIAA state cross country meet, which was run this year on Oct. 27 in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.

"I went down there on an official visit, and I got to meet the team and both of the coaches," Holmes said of UW-Milwaukee. "I just fell in love with it. I thought I liked this place, I'd fit in great, and the team was awesome."

Holmes has qualified for the WIAA state cross country meet all four years at Superior, with her top finish being 18th as a sophomore in that event.

In addition to cross country, Holmes will also run indoor and outdoor track for the Panthers. Her official signing date will be sometime in early February.

Holmes took just one other official visit during her college search, to Division I Bradley University, but she said it was a tough process to narrow down her choices.
