Thunderhawks' Viren Wins 100 Free State Title

Minneapolis, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Grand Rapids junior swimmer Solveig Viren won the MSHSL Class A state championship on Saturday afternoon in the 100-yard freestyle, and she also finished as the state's runner up in the 50-yard freestyle.

Viren finished the 100-yard event in a time of 51.32 seconds, almost a full half-second ahead of runner-up Steph Frey from Bemidji.

The Thunderhawks junior posted a time of 23.59 seconds in the 50-yard event, finishing second to state champion Danielle Nack of Mankato West.

Viren was also part of Grand Rapids' team in the 200-yard freestyle relay, with that team finishing 14th in a time of 1:42.08. The other three members of that relay were Maddie Bernard, Katie Welschinger, and Sydney Schlauderaff.
