Mankato, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Cherry softball team has been eliminated from the MSHSL Class A softball tournament with a 6-3 loss to New Life Academy in the quarterfinal round, ending the Tigers' bid at a second straight state championship.

DeAnn Bjerklie was the Tigers' offensive leader in the losing effort, going 4-for-4 at the plate, while pitcher Kacey Herring finished with four strikeouts in the game.

Cherry and New Life Academy have combined to win the past five state titles, with the Tigers' 2012 win marking the program's first-ever championship.

The Tigers now move to the Class A consolation bracket, with the team's next game coming against New York Mills at 3:00 p.m. at Caswell Park in Mankato, Minn.
