Cohasset, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Cherry softball team needed two games to get the job done on Thursday afternoon, but in the end the Tigers won a fifth straight Section 7A championship at Portage Park in Cohasset, Minn.

Cherry dropped the first championship game 8-2 to Littlefork-Big Falls, but because of the double-elimination format the Tigers got another chance and won the second game 12-0 in five innings.

Senior pitcher Kacey Herring pitched a no-hitter in the decisive second game, with her offense providing seven of the team's runs in the second inning alone.

Cherry will open play the state tournament on June 5 at 11:00 a.m. against the champion of Section 5A, with that game to be played as Caswell Park in Mankato, Minn.
