Tigers Win in Extras, Take Consolation Title

Mankato, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Cherry softball team scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning on Friday morning and then held on in the bottom half, beating New Ulm Cathedral 6-5 in eight innings to claim the MSHSL Class A consolation championship.

Kacey Herring tied the game in the top of the seventh inning with an RBI single, and then DeAnn Bjerklie and Deann Gruenhagen each came through with scoring hits in the eighth.

Herring went all eight innings in the pitcher's circle, allowing five runs on nine hits while striking out three batters.

Cherry finished the state tournament with a (2-1) record and closes out the 2013 season with an overall mark of (23-3).
