Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Esko freshman guard Jaxson Turner hit a straightaway three-pointer as time expired on Saturday night to give the Eskomos a dramatic 64-63 win over Mora in the Section 7AA championship at Romano Gymnasium in Duluth, Minn.
Esko trailed by three points with 3.3 seconds left with Casey Staniger at the free throw line. He made the first and intentionally missed the second, hoping for a putback basket from one of his teammates.
The ball bounced out of bounds with 1.1 seconds left on the clock, giving Esko one final chance at tying or winning the game. Turner came open at the top of the key and hit his shot as the buzzer sounded, sending the Esko fans into a frenzy.
It was Turner's only shot of the game, and he said afterwards he wasn't sure when it left his hand if it was going in.
Casey Staniger finished the game as the Eskomos' leading scorer with 25 points, and Marc Peterson added 20 for the team in the win.
It's the first time Esko has qualified for the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Class AA tournament since 2003, with this year's seeding set to come out on Sunday morning.
