Superior, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- In an effort to help Northland high school volleyball players get prepared for the start of the 2014 season, the UW-Superior volleyball team is holding its first-ever summer camp in August this week at Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium.

Yellowjackets head coach Lynne Deadrick was joined by a few members of her staff and a couple of her players in running the three-day camp, aimed at just getting the younger players on the court for a few days before the start of the fall season.

"I think the game teaches the game, and anytime the kids can be out playing it's going to help them and be to their advantage," Deadrick said. "I think these kids are having a good time. We've got a small group with some good coaching help."

More then 30 high school players were there Tuesday for the camp's first day, with the first high school practices set for Aug. 11 in Minnesota and Aug. 18 in Wisconsin.
