Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Proctor's Matt Welch won the Class A boys' individual title and Esko took home the Class A team championship, those marking the top Northland finishes at the 62nd annual Swain Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Welch finished with a time of 15:23.4, more than 30 seconds better than the runner-up. He dominated the middle portion of the race, pulling ahead through the first of two loops through Enger Park Golf Course in Duluth, Minn.
Esko, meanwhile, took home the team title with the help of the Class A runner-up in Marisa Shady. She finished in a time of 15:17.6, a little more than 30 seconds behind individual winner Clare Flanagan.
In the Class AA girls' race, Grand Rapids junior Erin Baker also took home individual runner-up honors. She finished in 15:23.6, just two seconds slower than winner Molly Eastman.
Cloquet's Dylan Marvel was the top Northland finisher in the Class AA boys' race, coming in sixth with a time of 16:21.9.
