Minneapolis, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- First-year Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer said Tuesday that most of his starters will see at least some time in the team's preseason opener on Friday, but star running back Adrian Peterson will not be one of them.

Peterson, who played just two snaps last preseason and hasn't had an exhibition carry since August 2011, said he's fine with whatever Zimmer decides to do before the regular season.

"Either way. To be honest, I feel like once you know the offense, you pretty much know the offense," Peterson said. "You go out there and you run it full speed when its regular season."

Zimmer also said that he plans to start quarterback Matt Cassel in the preseason opener, but rookie Teddy Birdgewater will also see some time with the first team.

Minnesota's first preseason game against Oakland is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Friday at TCF Bank Stadium.
