Brewers Eliminated from Playoff Contention

September 30, 2012 Updated Sep 30, 2012 at 7:35 PM CDT

Milwaukee, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) --- After reaching the National League (NL) Championship Series a year ago, the Milwaukee Brewers were eliminated on Sunday from playoff contention in 2012 after a 7-0 loss to Houston.

Milwaukee had surged since mid-August, posting a (27-12) record over the past 39 games to get back into the hunt for the second NL wild card spot.

Mike Fiers pitched six innings for the Brewers on Sunday, striking out 10 batters but also allowing five earned runs.

His offense, meanwhile, couldn't solve Houston starter Jordan Lyles, who pitched a complete-game shutout with just four hits allowed.
