Milwaukee, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- The Milwaukee Brewers have traded outfielder Norichika Aoki to the Kansas City Royals in exchange for left-handed pitcher Will Smith, the team announced on Thursday morning.
The 24-year-old Smith spent the past two seasons with the Royals, posting an (8-10) record with a 4.76 earned run average in that time. He worked most in relief this past season, but Milwaukee general manager Doug Melvin said he will be looked at as a possible starter for the 2014 campaign.
Aoki departs Milwaukee after spending two seasons with the Brewers, that after hitting for a .287 average as the team's primary leadoff hitter and notching a .355 on-base percentage.
The trade means that former National League MVP Ryan Braun will move from left field to right field for Milwaukee, with prospect Khris Davis expected to fill the left field role in 2014.
