Cassel Gets Starting Nod for Vikings

December 11, 2013 Updated Dec 11, 2013 at 6:04 PM CDT

Minneapolis, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Matt Cassel will be the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings on Dec. 15 against the Philadelphia Eagles, it was announced on Wednesday by head coach Leslie Frazier.

Cassel, who also started last week's game against Baltimore, is (1-2) so far this season when acting as the starting quarterback for Minnesota.

In those three previous starts, Cassel has completed 60.7 percent of his passes for 754 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Christian Ponder will act as the team's backup this week against the Eagles, meaning free agent signing Josh Freeman will once again be the third stringer after acting in the number two role last Sunday in Baltimore.
